The Star Wars Saga continues…
This weekend I visited the developers of the Panthera Anti Snoring device in Quebec City, Canada. That I was completely and thoroughly impressed would be an understatement. Their CAD-CAM R&D and 3D Printer manufacturing facility was a cross between the United States Gold Bullion Depository at Fort Knox and the NASA Space Center; clearly, they feel they have something special that’s worth protecting.

The Panthera is a Cad-Cam designed oral appliance manufactured on a 3D Printer. It is constructed with a biocompatible nylon material that is so durable it can withstand heat sterilization, and incorporates some unique and intriguing design features that distinguish it from its peers. Although similar to the NARVAL by RESMED, it boasts some meaningful enhancements, which I have already discussed in a previous article. It also comes wrapped in a 5 year “Warranty on Breakage”; you’re protected even if it changes color, provided you clean it with the cleaning system they recommend. In a previous post, I read comments about the higher lab fee associated with the 3D Printer manufactured devices. However, having witnessed what’s involved in making these devices possible I now better understand the rational for this lab fee. Certainly, the features they boast along with the Warranty provided helps to justify it.

It was an absolute pleasure meeting the developers of Panthera and experiencing their educational program first hand. Everything I heard was literature based and in full compliance with standards created by the AADSM. By days end I felt very comfortable with the notion of participating as a Speaker in the educational program they plan on launching in Ontario, Canada. I found the program they created to be a very comprehensive introduction to Sleep Disorders Dentistry and their scientific explanation of the design features incorporated into their device both believable and fascinating.

The Panthera Device’s FDA approval is in progress but should be just a matter of paperwork due to equivalency rules (similarity to the NARVAL by RESMED). As I mentioned in a previous article, the Panthera seems to be a more evolved NARVAL… interesting times. I’ll keep you posted about upcoming lectures in Ontario.
